History
Lady Irene Haig was born on 7 October 1919 and served with the British Red Cross during the Second World War. She married Gavin Astor, later the 2nd Baron Astor of Hever, on 4 October 1945 and became Lady Astor of Hever when her husband succeeded to the barony in 1971.
Bemersyde. St Boswells was Lady Haig's address before her marriage. Her record card from the Joint War Organisation Index shows she was a member of Dumfries 136 detachment and had worked in the Detachment Department between September 1941 and November 1942.
