Presented to the British Red Cross Sri Lanka Livelihoods Delegates from the BRC Sri Lankan National Staff from the Ampara Office in appreciation and thanks to British Red Cross after the Sri Lanka Tsunami Ampara programme was completed in June 2007. The Programme provided cash grants to nearly 6,000 households over a two year period across 19 villages in three phases to support the re-establishment and diversification of livelihoods at both household and community level following the Tsunami in December 2004. The tsunami killed more than 31,000 in Sri Lanka and displaced some 500,000, and destroyed homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods.
