Description
Decorative silver plaque in a red velvet presentation case which was a gift to the British Red Cross from Vilufushi, Maldives to show gratitude for assistance following the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.

The silver plaque in the style of a unrolled scroll with two leaves underneath, is mounted on wood effect plastic and has the following ingraving:

'The People of Vilufushi / acknowledges the generous aid rendered by the / British Red Cross in reconstructing our island / destroyed by the Tsunami on 26th December 2004. / We take this opportunity to show our gratitude towards the / British Red Cross and the people of Britain / on behalf of the community of Vilufushi / for the hard work and generousity rendered in developing an exemplary island. / We the people of Vilufushi are indebted to the British Red / Cross and the people of Britain and will always remember / the kindness and assistance extended to us as long as / people live on Vilufushi/ / With sincere thanks and gratitude from the people of the Maldives. / 24 May 2009
