Description
Framed tapestry mady by G. Sergeant W.F.Edwards whilst a prisoner in Stalag VIIIb. The tapestry shows a scene of a man and woman in 18th century costume in a wood panelled room. A note has been attached to the back of the frame which reads 'Red Cross & St John Club. Made in Stalag VIIB by Sgt. W.F. Edwards. Presented to the above club for Red Cross funds. Worked on mattress ticking. Leicester.' Stored in a bag made from an embroidered textile, with note stamped 'From the Knighton Hall Depot, Leicester. To: embroidered picture of ticking - wools taken from blankets, cardigans and any pieces available'.
