History
The Civil Defence Corps was a civilian volunteer organisation in post war Britain. Established in 1949, it's purpose was to provide assistance in the event of a national emergency. Due to the international situation at the time, a cold war nuclear attack was considered a real possibility, and the Civil Defence Corps were train to mobilise and take control of affected areas. At one point the organisation had 330,000 members but was eventually stood down in 1968.
