1 tin of Bacon. Bacon was a valuable source of food as it contained fat, protein and vitamin B1. It was sent in food parcels as a substitute for fish or cold meat or as an extra. From January 1941 until the end of the war the Canadian Red Cross packed and shipped nearly 16 500 00 prisoner-of-war food parcels at a cost of $47 529 000.
