Description
Ceramic plate commemorating Clara Barton, Founder of the American Red Cross. The plate is blue underglaze transfer-printed Staffordshire whiteware with representation of the 'Birthplace of Clara Barton' in centre. On reverse the text reads: 'Property of Women's National Missionary Association of Universalist Church, North Oxford, Massachusetts'. Mark is for Rowland & Marsellus (1893-1938), New York-based importers and retailers specialising in commemorative plates, and associated with A.&S. Burbank, a publisher, bookseller, and souvenir retailer based in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
