History
The National Hospital Service Reserve [N.H.S.R] worked during peacetime to recruit and train a reserve of both men and women in first aid and home nursing. These recruits could be called upon should war break out to provide additional staffing support to hospitals, Mobile First Aid Units and First Aid Posts. By the end of 1953, over 35,000 reservists had been recruited.
