Description
Cloth badge with the arms of the British Red Cross on the right and the Order of St John on the left, enclosed in a double circle containing the words "V.A.D. General Service". This badge was worn on the left forearm of a uniform greatcoat or jacket by all members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment General Service Section during the First World War. General Service VAD members carried out a range of roles as cooks, laundresses, clerks, dispensers, laboratory and x-ray assistants.
