Description
Vapo-Cresolene lamp, used for the relief of chest complaints, in original box. There are three parts, the stand, petroleum oil holder with wick and bulb. The fourth part, a metal dish, which is missing, was suspended over a small heat source, was heated to vaporize the chemical it contained. Vapo-Cresolene was used to "cure or considerably alleviate" primarily diseases of the respiratory system and throat such as whooping cough, asthma, diphtheria and scarlet fever. It was also used to sanitize bedrooms, sick rooms or other areas where there were sick or infected patients, or where it was thought there would be bacteria. Directions for use are printed on the exterior of the box.
