Description
Wooden block covered in paper packaging with 'Meltis Plain chocolate' stamped on top. Chocolate was constantly asked for by prisoners. From 1943, it was fortified with vitamin A. Early in 1944, the "relief chocolate", issued to the Services, replaced the former type to save manufacturing two kinds. "Relief chocolate", although having lower vitamin A content was considerably richer in calcium and vitamins B and C. Of the type sent to prisoners of war during the Second World War in Joint War Organisation parcels.
