Black and white photograph of a letter sent by Lord Kitchener, dated 12 September [1914] and addressed from the War Office, Whitehall: 'I see no objection to parties with motor ambulances searching villages in France that are not in occupation of the Germans for wounded and to obtain particulars of the missing and conveying them to hospitals'.
