History
The Princess of Wales’ first official position with the British Red Cross was as patron of the Red Cross Youth in 1983. In 1993, she became a vice president, in 1994 a member of the Advisory Commission on the future of the Movement and in 1995 Patron of the Society’s 125th Birthday Appeal.

The Princess took a particular interest in the Society’s work overseas, visiting projects in, among others, Nepal and Zimbabwe. She was also a keen supporter of fundraising and awareness-raising campaigns.

Despite ending her involvement with the British Red Cross in 1996, in January 1997, the Princess visited Angola with the Red Cross to highlight the organisation’s worldwide campaign against anti-personnel landmines. She attended a number of British Red Cross fundraising events in aid of the campaign.
