Description
Photograph of a Red Cross VAD at the Barbican. Seventy trained Red Cross members provided first aid cover at the Barbican through the year from the day it opened in March 1982. In1980 the Barbican Arts Centre authorities approached Branch Headquarters in London to discover if Red Cross services could be made available when public evetts were held within the Barbican. A recruitment campaign was instituted to seek new volunteers and adverts were placed in The City Recorder and posters were placed in offices around the City. As a result many new volunteers were trained by the City of London Sector.
