History
The Northumberland Branch of the British Red Cross Society was formed in 1909 with the then Duchess of Northumberland as President. The first County Director was Captain Harold Cuthbert. Training began at once and the first detachments with the requisite number of qualified members were Alnwick men and Alnwick women in 1911.
