Description
Quilt made by the Upper Haynesville Women's Institute, Milville, New Brunswick, Canada, in 1943. Composed of 38 x 8" squares, pale cream with large red 'V's in centre. 4 embroidered signatures in each square except bottom right hand square which has 3 signatures and 'Upper Haynesville...' as above. Squares separated by blue strips. Edged with 3 bands: (from outside) red, cream and blue. 2 embroidered signatures along each edge. 18" centre square contains 46 embroiderd signatures of men and women and 'On Active Service, April 1943'. Top right hand corner of reverse has mark where old label has been removed. This probably read 'Gift of the Canadian People/Red Cross' or similar.
