History
Radnorshire was renamed Powys under the Local Government Act 1972 which took effect on 1 January 1974 at which point the Radnorshire Branch closed and became the Powys Branch.

The Powys Branch became the Calon Cymru Branch of the British Red Cross Society prior to 31 December 1997. The Calon Cymru Branch closed on 31 December 1997 due to reunification with the national organisation under a single charitable status. In 2004 Powys became part of the British Red Cross Wales Area in the Wales and Western Region.
