Description
Emergency Relief to Hungary, 1956 - Advisory Council Luncheon for the National Hungarian and Central European Relief Fund.

This file consists of correspondence and related documentation regarding the first and second luncheons and meetings of the Advisory Council of the Lord Mayor's National Hungarian and Central European Relief Fund, Mansion House, London. It includes the agenda, minutes and reports of the meetings on 15th December 1956 and 21st September 1957. This document is situated in the Central Registry Files.

The file refers to the support of Hungarian refugees who had fled their country during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Many people escaped the gunfire in the Country’s capital of Budapest and fled to neighbouring countries such as Austria and beyond.

This specific object has links to my family as my grandfather was one of the lucky ones who managed to escape, seeking refuge in England. That is why this object is very important to my own family history.

Audio recording by Lauren Priestley (Volunteer), Manchester.
