Some of the main events during 1949 were: the signing of the new Geneva Conventions; the silver jubilee of the British Junior Red Cross and Princess Elizabeth becoming its patron; the closing down of the commission in India and Pakistan; the closing down of the commission in Jordan; and Ceylon Branch becoming a National Society.
