Some of the main events during 1953 were: flooding on the east coast; the Princess Royal's visit to the West Indies; providing first aid at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, patron and president of the British Red Cross; and providing assistance to the sick, wounded and prisoners of war in Korea.
