Some of the main events during 1963 were: the retirement of Lord Woolton as chairman and Lady Limerick as vice-chairman of the executive committee; the centenary year of the Red Cross movement; the secondment of a medical team following the outbreak of conflict in the Yemen; responding to the severe winter weather across England and Wales; and the reconstitution of the Sub-committee for Emergencies of the Standing Conference of British Organisations for Aid to Refugees as the Disasters Emergency Committee.
