Description
Black and white photograph showing Red Cross volunteers responding after a fire in the New Forest which threatened to reach a hospital during the drought of summer 1976. Volunteers from the surrounding area helped to evacuate 360 older people by pushing them on beds, trollies and in wheelchairs. The volunteers responded within twenty minutes of the call for help and carried pre-packed disaster kits.
