Description
Black and white photograph showing the Red Cross working with the Ulster Defence Regiment in Northern Ireland when a young girl was rescued from the top of the Mourne Mountains. The girl was rescued by members of the Ulster Defence Regiment and helped from the helicopter by Red Cross volunteers before being taken to a Red Cross medical aid unit where she was treated and later taken home.
The girl had been taking part in the Annual Mourne Walk organised by the Youth Hostel Association when she was taken ill with exhaustion. There was a Red Cross ambulance stationed as far up the mountain road as possible and first aiders were on duty along the route, keeping in touch with base camp by radio.
