Description
This object is the Report from the National Society during the Franco-Prussian War. When looking at this report it is helpful in my opinion to know that The British Red Cross was formed on 4th August 1870 as The British National Society for Aid to Sick and Wounded in War in response to the Franco-Prussian War, and this campaign was the very first work the Society did. This bound report refers to the operations carried out by the organisation during the War, which occurred from 1870 to 1871.

The report contains maps, reports and correspondence along with the statements of receipts referring to the cost of aid during this time. It contains over 200 pages of information about the relief the Red Cross provided during the Franco-Prussian War, and its cost. The locations where soldiers were given aid is also mapped.

Documents like these, in my opinion, give us an insight not only into the lives of the soldiers fighting at the time, but also the people who often get forgotten about, but who still played an important part in helping to solve conflict and give aid where it is needed.
