Description
Second World War ARP First Aider Jacket. Jacket is made from navy blue wool with a collar, chest pockets and belt. Badges are sewn onto the pockets and read: "Red Cross Society" surrounding a Red Cross emblem on one side and "CD" underneath a gold crown on the other.

History
In 1935, the British Government set up a special air raid precautions department to deal with the possible side effects of aerial warfare. By 1938, the Red Cross had 2,479 instructors trained in air raid precautions (ARP).
