Description
Creating a patch for the EmpowHER quilt was one of Michelle's many activities with the EmpowHER programme. On her patch, she used a variety of techniques and materials to demonstrate possibilities, with the design itself reflecting the difficulties of the Covid-19 (coronavirus) lockdowns. "The design depicts an image of a laptop with the quote 'pressure'. During the lockdown, we were forced into the online world, which for many created pressures to learn new programmes such as Zoom." However, she also included positive messages relating to EmpowHER, such as 'we have a voice'.
The quilt patches were made during the Covid-19 pandemic and highlight some of the challenges people faced. Michelle hopes that when people see the quilt, they will consider the experiences of others. "I think people will gain an understanding of what it was like during the lockdown and the impact it had on different individuals. The patches (and quilt) were a great way to bring different thoughts, views and people together."

History
Michelle first got involved with the EmpowHER programme through her youth group, Autism and ADHD. UK Youth invited them to become a delivery partner for the programme's third and fourth cohorts, with the youth group then becoming 'Autism and ADHD EmpowHER Chase the Rainbow'.
Michelle helped the EmpowHER young women and girls with many different projects, but one particularly stands out. "My favourite part was our pop-up shop. Our girls came alive, and we had so many happy visitors, we truly felt we had done something worthwhile and meaningful for our community."
The most significant thing she learnt from being involved in EmpowHER was "just how good it feels to help others and watch the confidence of young women and girls grow."
