Description
British Red Cross mechanical collecting box with roll out model ambulance. Ambulance appears from garage when coins are placed in slot in roof. Box is white with red writing and ambulance is hand painted navy and white with the emblem on each side. Box is in two sections; the smaller top section with the coin slot is attached to the larger base which houses the runner mechanism for the ambulance.
Ambulance no longer stays within the garage but is still fixed to the collection box on it's runner mechanism.
Refurbished and repainted from the original design with labels saying 'The Red Cross' and depicting the emblem replacing the original design. In use in a Godalming butcher's shop until the 1990s.
