Description
Silver cigar box with enamelled Red Cross emblem on the outside of the hinged lid and wooden compartments inside. Presented to Colonel James Magill. Inscription on underside of the lid: 'Presented to Colonel James Magill CB MD/ Organising Secretary to the British Red Cross Society,/ by the Members of the Balkan Medical Relief Committee/ as a token of appreciation of/ his great services to the Society in connection with/ The Balkan War 1912-1913.' Underneath, the box is inscribed with the following signatures: Georgina Dudley, GH Makins, George Thos. Beatson, B Franklin, V Montrose, Anthony W Bowlby, Alfred Keogh, EH Richdale, James Cantlie, Maud Lansdowne, Frederick Treves, Harriet G Wantage.
