Miss Edith Maud Drummond Hay was from St Kessog's, Glencarse, Perthshire. The album contains sketches, photographs, press cuttings and certificates recording Edith Drummond Hay's service with the British Red Cross in auxiliary hospitals during the First World War.

Edith Drummond Hay's service with the British Red Cross began at Perth Auxiliary Hospital in September 1914 where she worked until February 1917 when she was transferred to Abbey Auxiliary Hospital in Fort Augustus. From March 1917 Edith Drummond Hay worked at No III Stationary Hospital, which was attached to British Expeditionary Force at [Barnatal] near Rouen. From November 1917 until April 1919 she served at the Sick Sister's Hospital Abbeville which was annexed to No II Stationary Hospital. During her time here she also served at No 8 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne (January 1919) and travelled to Villa Casa del Mare, Cabbe Roquebrune for a fortnights leave (February 1919). The Sick Sister's Hospital was dismantled in March 1919 and Edith Drummond Hay was transferred to No II Stationary Hospital. She was demobilised on 27 May 1919. Edith Drummond Hay was awarded the Royal Red Cross (second class) in the King's Birthday Honours, June 1919, for her wartime service.
