Description
First Meeting poster: The British Red Cross Society East Lancashire Branch President The Viscountess Brackley. A public meeting will be held in the Iron Room, Alexandra Road, on Thursday Evening, June 23rd, at Eight o'clock, in connection with the Whalley Range, Moss Side and Hulme Branch. Chairman: Councillor J. Harold Birley. The aim and object of the Society will be explained by Col. Coates, C.B. (Chairman, Chairman Executive Committee, East Lancashire Branch British Red Cross Society). Col. J.W. Smith, R.A.M.C.T. Capt. Wood, R.A.M.C. The main idea is to form Voluntary Aid Detachments, Male and Female; the former 62 members, the latter 26 members. Anyone over the age of 17 is elligible to join and to be instructed in first aid to the sick and wounded. Men specially suitable are Carpenters, Joiners, Mechanics, Plumbers, Clerks, Cooks, Sanitary Men, Horsemen, &c. Women will nurse, cook for, and generally look after the patients. All men and women of every class are cordially invited.
