Description
Tablecloth embroidered with the names of patients and staff who worked at the Manchester Hospitals during the First World War. The tablecloth was a gift as someone called Miss Lindsey had to leave the hospital due to ill health.
The cloth has the names of 31 soldiers from various regiments, as well as E. Evans Sister, M.E. Hill Sister, K.V. Phelps Sister, F. Price Sister and N. Mitchell Matron. No record of service has been found for Miss Lindsey.
There are two VAD cards for Miss Mary E Hill who was a Nursing Sister at the Baptist Schools Hospital [Red Cross Hospital] Chorlton-cum-Hardy. One VAD card found for Kate Vaux Phelps who was a Lady Superintendent and Voluntary Sister at the same hospital from 1914 to 1918.
