"Out of earshot of the nearest guards, without witnesses, a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross, guardian and promoter of the Geneva Conventions, discusses detention conditions with a group of prisoners of war. Relaxed, they talk freely with the ICRC man, knowing, thanks to Red Cross-sponsored training they have received on the Conventions, that they are fully protected and that there will be no reprisals for what they say. The Red Cross delegate symbolizes the link between these prisoners and their homes and families. For prisoners of war, the Red Cross and the Geneva COnventions are HUMANITY'S BRIDGE"
