Some of the main events during 1981 were: the Hong Kong Branch continuing to run a transit camp at Kai Tak North for Vietnamese boat people; former Branches in Zimbabwe and Grenada being recognised as independent National Societies; former Committee in Tuvalu being recognised as an independent National Society; and the launching of a special appeal for Poland due to economic difficulties.
