Some of the main events during 1987 were: Sussex Branch responding when thousands lost their homes following hurricane-force winds; North Yorkshire Branch providing first aid following violence at a football match between Scarborough and Wolverhampton Wanderers; and Kent Branch providing support following the capsizing of the 'Herald of Free Enterprise' off the Belgian coast near Zeebrugge.
