The Avon branch was formed in 1974. After county boundary changes it covered the area of the dissolved Bristol branch and also covered areas that had previously formed parts of Gloucestershire and Somerset.
The Avon Branch dissolved due to reunification with the national organisation under a single charitable status. In 2004 Avon became part of the British Red Cross Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Area in the Wales and Western Region.
