History
During the span of the diaries Angela Limerick held positions on the Executive Committee of the Joint War Organisation, Executive Committee of the British Red Cross, the Standing Commission of the International Red Cross and within the League of Red Cross Societies. Her biography, A Form of Gratitude: the life of Angela Limerick by Donald Lindsay, outlines her career in greater detail and makes many references to the diaries.

Angela Limerick's earlier visits to Overseas Branches and to British relief teams had the effect of influencing both local decision making and future British Red Cross policy in these areas. The later tours reflect her increasing international involvement and reflect the dynamics of the Movement and changes leading up to the Tansley Report, 1975 on the Red Cross's future. Whilst the diaries are not always particularly detailed they do provide keen observations on the personalities and direction of red cross work in a particular area or country, made by one of the most experienced and well-travelled figures in the international red cross world.
