History
The Civil Defence Service, was established in 1935 by the Home Office. It encompassed the ARP (Air Raid Precautions) as well as wardens, fire watchers, rescue, first aid post, stretcher party and industry. Firemen were also included, initially as the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) and latterly the National Fire Service (NFS).
