Description
During one of the first weekends of the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, Kim decided to create a patch for the EmpowHER quilt using materials she could find at home. "I remember getting out all of my craft supplies to see if I had enough without having to do any online ordering; hence the background is two inexpertly sewn together with bits of material because I didn't have a single piece of fabric big enough."

She embroidered the phrase 'space for everyone' and an image of the world onto her square. "Embroidering the text and the earth took ages, but I found it really soothing, sitting on the floor of my room all weekend, listening to podcasts."

"I chose the phrase 'space for everyone' because I'd been thinking a lot about how we share resources as a global society and how we react to people moving into new spaces. Climate migration is a huge, growing problem, and it struck me even more deeply as that first Covid-19 wave struck just how important it is that we pool our resources, share our spaces, and are kind to each other."

History
Kim Pyle was a British Red Cross EmpowHER Youth Engagement Worker/Manager.

"Throughout the EmpowHER programme, I've been privileged to work alongside a huge number of really talented, inventive, passionate young women and girls. So many of them have struggled with their confidence, which is difficult to watch when you can see how brilliant they are! It's always a great moment when you see someone realise that they're capable of making change happen and start to believe in themselves fully and happily. On EmpowHER, I've been able to experience a lot of those moments."
